LED Light Therapy

LED Light Therapy

LED is suitable for all skin types and is a completely pain-free, noninvasive approach to working with light producing amazing results. During the past 10 years, independent worldwide research from organizations such as NASA has shown that light applied in the correct wavelength stimulates intercellular communication, resulting in skin rejuvenation. LED is an un-intrusive soothing and rejuvenating treatment and will treat acne, fine lines and wrinkles, pigmentation, acne scarring and rosacea.

LED light therapy uses light-emitting diode (LED) technology to activate and promote a positive change to the skin improving the overall texture of the epidermis, resulting in a more youthful, radiant appearance and texture.

LED stands for Light Emitting Diode, which is a light source. During treatment an LED facial light is used to produce specific wavelengths of light that are absorbed into your skin. Your skin then uses this light energy as fuel to drive cellular reactions, such as the production of proteins and lipids that are required for building and restoring the skin, or increased intercellular communication and purification. As we age, our metabolism slows down, meaning our cells loose energy, and our body produces less collagen and elastin – the essential ingredients that support and nourish our skin.

Different colours represent different wavelengths of light. The different wavelengths have unique properties and can therefore be used to target certain skin conditions. For example, the wavelength of light that corresponds to blue light can be used for acne treatments. This is because blue light is absorbed by porphyrins, which are molecules that are produced by P. acnes, the bacteria that causes acne. On absorption, the light creates a chemical change, resulting in free radicals. The free radicals then kill the bacteria from the inside, without harming the skin cells. On the other hand, red light, stimulates fibroblasts to produce collagen and elastin and thereby improves skin strength.

On the other hand, red light, stimulates fibroblasts to produce collagen and elastin and thereby improves skin strength, elasticity and plumpness and also reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

  • Kills acne bacteria and facilitates clean, clear skin
  • Diminishes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Firms and contours the skin
  • Improves colour and texture
  • Improves sun-damaged skin
  • Hydrates and revitalises
  • Improves circulation
  • Helps treat rosacea and calms redness
  • Promotes healing

Our LED machines use a variety of different coloured lights to target different concerns. Our settings are matched with your skin concerns, creating a pattern of different lights, to ensure maximum results. Blue light therapy is sterilising and used to eliminate bacteria, excellent for oily and acne prone skin. The red light therapy calms and heals the skin, promoting collagen production and encouraging cell renewal. This is perfect for reducing wrinkles, hydrating the skin and helps with overall face firmness. The yellow light therapy is calming, reduces redness, swelling and inflammation. Very beneficial for rosacea and treating sunburn.

We can use a variety of these lights in one sitting to combat all concerns, and your beauty therapist will discuss these with you in the consultation process.

The number of treatments needed varies with different skin types and conditions. Smoother, more hydrated skin with a radiant sheen can be seen even after the first treatment, however we recommend a course of treatments in salon 1 to 2 times a week for 4 to 8 weeks for best results – depending on your skin concerns. You beauty therapist will discuss the best treatment plan for you for ultimate results. As with any skin care treatment, maintenance is highly recommended to ensure lasting results. On average, a maintenance treatment is suggested every four to six weeks.

Add an LED Light Therapy session to your peel or microdermabrasion treatment for $45. The light will be on the skin for 20 minutes following your treatment.
